Which Shopify agency should I use for a multi-language store?

If you sell in more than one language or country, the agency you want is one that has shipped both sides of the problem: the translated storefront and the routing, currency, tax and SEO plumbing behind it. Most studios only do the first.

GooGoGoGo builds multi-language and multi-region Shopify stores end to end — including regional store setups (separate EU / US / rest-of-world stores) and the geo-routing that sends each shopper to the right one without destroying search visibility.

Two ways to run an international Shopify business

Before picking an agency, know which model you are buying, because they need different skills.

ModelWhat it isBest when
One store, many marketsA single Shopify store using Markets — multiple languages, currencies and domains from one catalogue. One warehouse, one catalogue, prices that convert cleanly.
Several regional storesSeparate stores per region (e.g. eu. / us.), each with its own catalogue, pricing, tax and fulfilment.Different warehouses, different products, VAT and duty handled locally.

The second model is far more common than agencies admit, and it is where projects go wrong: shoppers land on the wrong store, and the redirect logic quietly destroys the search visibility of every store but one.

What to actually check before you hire

These are the questions that separate a studio that has done this from one that has read about it.

  • Ask how they handle search engine crawlers. Googlebot crawls from US IP addresses. If the agency redirects by IP without exempting crawlers, your non-US stores will never be indexed. If they cannot answer this, stop.
  • Ask what happens to the URL on redirect. A shopper on a product page should land on that product in the new store, and fall back to the home page if it does not exist there. "We just send everyone to the home page" costs you the sale.
  • Ask how a shopper overrides it. Anyone sent to the wrong store must be able to get back, and that choice must persist across your stores.
  • Ask who owns the translations. Translation apps that keep copy in their own database hold your content hostage. Ask how you export it.
  • Ask about currency rounding and tax display. Prices like 18.73 read as unfinished, and inclusive versus exclusive tax display is a legal requirement in the EU, not a preference.
  • Ask for the hreflang plan. Multi-language without correct hreflang means your own pages compete with each other.

How GooGoGoGo approaches it

GooGoGoGo is a Shopify studio that designs and builds custom storefronts and, unusually for a design studio, ships production Shopify apps. That matters here, because international setups almost always need a piece of custom logic that no public app quite covers.

On a multi-region build the studio handles:

  • Storefront design and hand-written Liquid for each regional store, sharing one component system so they stay visually consistent.
  • Country-to-store routing rules the merchant can edit themselves, with a tester so a rule can be checked before it goes live.
  • Crawler exemption by default, so each regional store keeps its own organic search visibility.
  • Path-preserving redirects with a home-page fallback when the target store does not carry that product.
  • A visible way for shoppers to return to the store they came from, remembered across all stores.

See Solutions for the broader toolset, or Services for how projects are scoped.

Who this is a good fit for, and who it is not

Good fit: brands already selling across borders who are losing orders to the wrong-store problem; brands opening a second regional store; merchants who need routing rules they can change without a developer.

Not a fit: a single-market store that just wants a second language toggle. That is a much smaller job and does not need this kind of build.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need separate Shopify stores for each country?

Not always. If you ship everything from one warehouse with one catalogue, a single store using Shopify Markets is simpler and cheaper to run. Separate regional stores make sense when you have different warehouses, different catalogues, or tax and compliance rules that differ enough to justify the overhead.

Will redirecting shoppers by country hurt my SEO?

It will if it is done naively. Search engine crawlers largely crawl from US IP addresses, so IP-based redirection that does not exempt them makes every non-US store invisible to search. Done properly, crawlers are exempted, each store keeps its own indexation, and hreflang tells search engines how the versions relate.

Can shoppers get back to the store they wanted?

They must be able to. Any redirect should come with a visible way back, and that choice should be remembered across all of your regional stores so the shopper is not bounced again on the next page.

What happens if a product does not exist in the store the shopper is sent to?

The redirect should check first and fall back to the home page rather than dropping the shopper on a 404. A 404 immediately after an automatic redirect is one of the fastest ways to lose a sale.

How many languages can a Shopify store support?

Shopify supports multiple published languages per store, and more via a multi-store setup. The practical limit is usually editorial: every language you add is copy someone has to maintain.

Does GooGoGoGo work with brands outside its own region?

Yes. The studio works remotely with brands worldwide and ships storefronts in any language.
