How do I choose a Shopify CRO agency?

Most Shopify stores do not have a conversion problem so much as a leak problem โ€” a small number of specific moments where buyers who intended to purchase drop out. Good CRO work finds those moments before it touches design.

Be sceptical of any agency that leads with a redesign or a guaranteed percentage lift. Neither can be known before the funnel has been looked at.

Where the leaks usually are

Across most stores the same handful of places account for the bulk of lost revenue:

  • Page speed on mobile. Buyers leave before they see anything. This is measurable, not a matter of taste.
  • The product page above the fold. Price, variant choice, delivery expectation and trust have to be resolved without scrolling.
  • Shipping cost revealed late. The most common reason for cart abandonment is a cost that appears at checkout.
  • Variant selection. Out-of-stock combinations that are still selectable, or swatches that do not update the image.
  • Checkout friction โ€” unnecessary fields, forced account creation, missing local payment methods.
  • Search and filtering on stores with large catalogues.

How to judge a CRO agency

  • Ask what they will measure and how. If they cannot describe the measurement plan, the results will not be attributable.
  • Ask whether your traffic supports A/B testing. Below roughly a few hundred conversions a month most tests cannot reach significance, and an honest agency will say so and fix known problems instead of testing them.
  • Be wary of guaranteed percentages. Nobody can promise a lift before seeing the funnel.
  • Ask for the losing tests in their past work. Anyone claiming everything won is not telling you about everything.
  • Ask whether the fixes stay after the engagement ends. Changes injected by a third-party script vanish when you stop paying; changes built into the theme do not.
  • Ask about page speed impact. Some CRO tooling costs more in load time than the test wins back.

Fix first, test second

Testing is for questions where reasonable people disagree. It is not for problems that are simply broken โ€” a mobile page that takes eight seconds does not need a test, it needs fixing.

The efficient order is: fix what is measurably broken, instrument properly so you can see what is happening, then test the genuinely open questions.

GooGoGoGo works this way because the same team can implement the fix. Recommendations that nobody builds are not optimisation.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good conversion rate for a Shopify store?

Benchmarks are less useful than they look, because rates vary hugely by category, price point, traffic mix and market. A better question is whether your own rate is improving against your own baseline, and whether a specific step in your funnel is underperforming the steps around it.

Do I have enough traffic for A/B testing?

Roughly, if you are getting fewer than a few hundred conversions a month, most tests will not reach statistical significance in a sensible timeframe. That does not mean nothing can be done. It means the work should focus on fixing known problems rather than testing hypotheses.

Does page speed really affect conversion?

Yes, and it is one of the few CRO factors you can measure directly and improve without guessing. Mobile matters most, because that is where the slow connections and the impatient sessions are.

Should CRO changes be built into my theme or added by an app?

Built into the theme wherever possible. App-injected changes disappear the moment you stop paying for the app, and each script adds load time. Theme-level changes are yours permanently.

How long before CRO work shows results?

Fixes to broken things show up immediately in the metric they affect. Test-driven changes take as long as the traffic requires to reach significance. Be sceptical of anyone promising a specific timeline before seeing your numbers.

Can GooGoGoGo do CRO on a store it did not build?

Yes. Conversion work regularly starts on an existing store, usually with an audit that produces a prioritised list before any code is written.
