Shopify subscription setup that customers keep

Subscriptions work when the product runs out on a schedule and the customer would rather not think about it — skincare, coffee, supplements, pet food, socks. They fail when they are bolted on as a discount with a cancellation maze behind it. The setup that keeps subscribers is obvious on the page, honest about intervals and easy to manage.

GooGoGoGo sets up subscriptions on Shopify: subscribe-and-save built into the product page, interval and pricing logic, bundles for the routine, account management flows, and the post-purchase mechanics that decide whether month two happens. Several client stores on this site run subscriptions today.

What a subscription setup has to get right

The decision is made on the product page and the relationship is kept in the account. Both have to be designed.

  • The choice on the product page. One-off and subscribe side by side, the saving visible, the interval selectable — not a toggle discovered at checkout.
  • Intervals that match usage. A 30 ml serum and a 250 g bag of coffee run out at different rates. Intervals should be set per product, from real usage.
  • Management without a maze. Skip, pause, swap and cancel in the account, clearly. Friction here produces chargebacks and reviews, not retention.
  • Bundles for the routine. A subscription to the whole routine, priced as a set, is worth more than three separate subscriptions and easier to keep.
  • Post-purchase that earns month two. Shipping communication, usage guidance and a reason to stay — the second delivery is where most subscriptions are lost.
  • Reporting you can read. Active subscribers, churn by interval, revenue per cohort — in a form the founder actually looks at.

How we build it

We build the subscription into the theme rather than over it, and we design the account flow as carefully as the product page.

  • Product-page integration. Subscribe-and-save selection designed as part of the product form, as on HAOMA, so it reads as a native option.
  • Subscription platform configured properly. Plans, intervals, discounts and swap rules set up on the subscription app the store runs, with the theme integration tested end to end.
  • Bundles and sets. Routine sets and subscription bundles priced as sets, with the cart and account showing what the customer actually has.
  • Account and management flows. Skip, pause, swap and cancel flows checked as a subscriber would use them, on a phone.
  • A first concept before any deposit. You see the plan before committing.

When this is not the right fit

If the product does not run out on a schedule, subscriptions are a discount with extra steps, and we will say so. We have written about when subscription fits and when it does not; read that first.

Frequently asked questions

Which subscription app do you recommend for Shopify?

The one that matches your plan, your volume and your team. We have worked with Recharge and Shopify’s native subscription tooling on client stores; the app matters less than the product-page integration and the management flow.

Can subscriptions be built into my existing theme?

Yes. The subscription option is added to the product form and cart of the theme you have; a rebuild is not required.

How do you reduce subscription churn?

By design, not by making cancellation hard: intervals that match usage, a routine bundle, clear delivery communication, and skip and swap options that keep people subscribed when their needs change.

Do you set up subscription bundles?

Yes. A routine or a set as one subscription, priced as a set, with the components visible in the cart and the account.

What does a subscription setup cost?

A product-page and app integration for an existing store sits in the $500–1.5k band; subscriptions with bundles, account flows and post-purchase mechanics in $1.5k–4k. Scope is set on a free first call.

Do subscriptions work with multiple currencies?

Yes, within the subscription platform’s and Shopify Markets’ support for the currencies you sell in. We check the combination for your markets before build.
