A specialty coffee subscription re-engineered so the third box feels as good as the first — and cancelling stops being the only option.
Subscription strategy / Retention UX / Shopify development
Challenge
Acquisition was healthy, retention was not. Most subscribers signed up on a rigid monthly plan, then hit the third delivery with the wrong grind, too much coffee, or a roast they had grown tired of. The self-service portal offered one real button — cancel — so a schedule that should have been paused became an account that was closed. Churn was quietly undoing every win at the top of the funnel.
Our role
We treated the subscription as the product, not an afterthought. New subscribers now choose roast, grind, and cadence up front, see a preview of their next box, and manage everything from a portal built to keep them rather than release them — swap the roast, skip a shipment, change frequency, or pause instead of cancel, all in a couple of taps.

Result
The moment people could adjust instead of quit, cancellations turned into pauses and swaps. Monthly subscriber churn dropped 22% within the first two months, and the average subscription now survives well past the fragile third delivery where the brand used to lose people.
